Daryll Neita

Original documentary film exploring Daryll Neita’s injury, recovery and her passions outside of elite athletics

Overview

Drive Phase is an original documentary project following British sprinter Daryll Neita through one of the most important periods of her career. Five months after suffering a broken foot, Daryll returned to competition with her sights set on the biggest stages of the sport, navigating recovery and exploring who she is outside of sport.

Challenge

At the centre of the story is a question that extends beyond performance: what happens when an athlete's identity is tested by injury? We wanted to look beyond the comeback narrative to explore Daryll as a multi-faceted person, and the role that creativity, self-expression and the world around her play in navigating difficult moments.

Solution

We’re developing the project around intimate access to Daryll's training, recovery and return to competition, capturing the quieter moments alongside the intensity of elite sport. The film uses her journey as a window into the person behind the athlete, exploring how creativity, individuality and ambition can coexist with the demands of high-performance sport.
